It was a day of record setting and prolific performances for Montgomery County’s finest girls and boys swimmers at the Region IV-6A swimming and diving championships on Friday.

After the preliminaries, the finals begin at 9:30 a.m. today.

Swimmers from across the region, including Round Rock, Austin, and schools from Harris County put in more than 500 entrants to the 24 events, with three heats apiece at the Conroe ISD Natatorium.

The Woodlands High School will have 28 individuals or teams compete in the finals, including a second and third place finish by seniors Ryan Sorensen and John Norris with 58.39 and 58.40 times respectively in the boys 100-yard breaststroke.

Oak Ridge will compete in seven events after their outing on Friday, including Emily Henson, Brooke Beddingfield, Sarah Dillard, and Naomi Lejeune’s time of 1:52.78 in the girls 200 yard Medley Relay.

College Park is also well-represented with 15, making first-year coach Rachel Banes excited for the opportunity for finals qualification.
