Lone Star College kicks off the holiday season with another finely crafted and well-danced performance of Dancescape

The Lone Star College-Montgomery dance department presented its fall dance concert, Dancescape, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m., in the Mainstage Theatre in the college’s Performing Arts Center (building D).DSC04297The evening’s program included a guest performance by Trenton Young. After graduating from Oak Ridge High school in 2012, Trenton enrolled at Lone Star College – Montgomery.

“Trenton had no formal training but was a natural dancer with raw talent. He took ballet, modern dance, jazz and immersed himself in our dance program. Earlier this year he auditioned for the dance program at Sam Houston State and was accepted, now he is a dance major at Sam” said LSC-Montgomery dance instructor Tiffany Nirider

Dancescape is the culmination of work done by students enrolled in the dance performance class. This class, in which students enroll for the opportunity to perform in a formal dance concert, teaches the students choreography, and then allows for rehearsing and refining it for the stage. Faculty, guest artists and students develop choreography, but students learn all of the other aspects of the creative and production process by helping with publicity, costuming, lighting design and more.

Nirider has been involved in dance for 33 years, beginning with dance instruction at 16 and moving into professional dance in 1997. She has taught at three Lone Star College campuses and also at Sam Houston State University. Her teaching repertoire includes modern, ballet, jazz, choreography, dance performance, dance appreciate, ballroom and aerobics.

DSC04362LSC-Montgomery currently offers ballet, modern dance, jazz and dance appreciation classes in addition to dance performance. Students in these courses focus on technique and artistry, while they continue to explore creativity in finding their own personal style. During the year, the dance program attends various dance festivals and performing venues.
