Atascocita High School had two state-caliber teams playing Dec. 5. While the football Eagles came up short in their regional final against Lake Travis, ending an outstanding season, the boys basketball team added to their impressive start with the Phillips 66 Katy Classic championship.
Atascocita won all five games in Katy, including a 93-66 victory against Klein Collins in the final Dec. 5 at the Merrell Center. The Eagles, recently ranked No. 10 in the nation by USA Today, improved to 14-0.
“We’re a little down because our football team lost, a little disappointed there,” Atascocita coach David Martinez said. “But we’re going to try to pick up right where they left off.”
The Eagles, who won the McDonald’s Texas Invitational during the opening week of the season, entered the Katy Classic as the favorite and did not disappoint. They defeated Morton Ranch 75-45 and Dekaney 77-68 in pool play to reach the gold bracket. click here for complete story
