Kingwood and Oak Ridge opened up District 16-6A play with a slugfest on Wednesday night. It took nine innings and well over three hours, but Kingwood finally managed to pull away and win 12-11 over the Lady War Eagles at Oak Ridge High School.
“We showed a lot of heart tonight,” Oak Ridge coach Amanda Brimberry said. “We are a very young team, full of sophomores. So the fact that they never gave up and continued to battle at the plate is something that I’m very proud of.”
In the ninth inning, Lacy Gregory singled to left, but Oak Ridge’s Cheyenne Cavanaugh made an impressive throw to get the base runner out at home to keep the game tied at 11. click here for complete story
