Getting to share the spotlight with her sister made this year’s championship twice as nice for Greta Bruner.
Greta won the 2016 District 16-6A championship, Thursday at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club in Magnolia. She was the only golfer in the field to shoot par, shooting a final-round 72 to finish the championship even par 144. Greta, who led by two after Wednesday’s opening round, played consistently throughout the final round – shooting par on 16 holes with one bogey and one birdie.
Greta’s total was seven strokes better than her nearest competitor — her sister Hannah and Jackie Barry of Kingwood. With Greta on the Woodlands “A” team and Hannah on the Woodlands “B” team, The Bruners’ total gave the Woodlands High School the team championship and runner-up.
Good putting was a key for Hannah Bruner. Hannah sank a 80-foot birdie putt on No. 18, then won a two-hole playoff over Jackie Barry of Kingwood to capture second place outright.
The Woodlands girls team advance to the the 2016 Region 2- 6A Championship at Cottonwood Creek Country Club in Waco, Texas with the opening round scheduled for Monday, April 11th.
