Robotics Facility Opened By Conroe ISD

roboticsfacilityOn June 10th Conroe ISD celebrated the opening of it’s state-of-the-art robotics facility located at The Woodlands College Park High School.  The new lab is home to FIRST Robotics team Texas Torque, which includes students from Conroe ISD area high schools.

Sonic, their 2013 world champion robot that cut the ribbon at the 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, cut the ribbon to officially open the lab. For the past several years the team has been operating out of a chemistry lab classroom at the school. The new 12,000+ square foot, multi-million dollar facility will allow the school district to reach out to students of all ages through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs.

Academics: SCI://TECH celebrates innovative minds

The Education for Tomorrow Alliance celebrated sharp minds and bright ideas during the 26th annual SCI://TECH Exposition.

From magnet exploration to the magic of electricity, hundreds of students put their best experiments on display at the Lone Star Convention Center in Conroe.

Summer camp emphasizes importance of math and science

Teachers became students for a week’s worth of sessions promoting strategies that foster more interest in math and science in the classroom.

From Sunday through Friday, the Teachers Academy, sponsored by ExxonMobil and professional golfer Phil Mickelson was housed at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.

Third- through fifth-grade teachers from various Houston-area school districts enjoyed an all-expenses paid, week-long stay at the hotel during these training sessions. The main goal was for these educators to walk away with strategies they can use in their classrooms to get students excited about math and science. click here for complete story

Conroe ISD Board of Trustees Recognize Destination Imagination Global Champions

DIGlobalChamps (1)The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to Destination Imagination Global Champions at Tuesday’s Board meeting. The team, comprised of seven 2015 graduates of the Academy of Science and Technology (AST), was awarded first place at the DI Global Finals that took place May 20-23 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Destination Imagination Global Champions recognized by CISD Board of Trustees

The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to Destination Imagination Global Champions at Tuesday’s Board meeting. The team, comprised of seven 2015 graduates of the Academy of Science and Technology (AST), was awarded first place at the DI Global Finals that took place May 20-23 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

DI is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering students’ curiosity, courage and creativity through open-ended STEM, fine arts and service learning challenges. The challenge selected by the team was called Feary Tales with the requirements to have a fairy tale type story with a character with a phobia, an optical illusion, and two types of art. Their pride and joy was the chameleon costume programmed with lights that changed as the animal’s moods changed which they said took over 100 hours of work to accomplish. click here for complete story
