Agriculture a foundation of county’s history

A lot can happen in a century, and Montgomery County is no exception. Now the quickly expanding county is established, balancing economic growth and historic preservation, but over 100 years ago the area was vying to make a name for itself.

According to “Montgomery County, Texas: Picture of a Dream Coming True” produced by the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County, farming was a primary livelihood for the early settlers. They had come for the land and many had been farmers before arriving in Texas. Read more…

The Woodlands High School takes top prize at district academic meet

5533150a94bae.imageThe Woodlands High School will have 31 students move on to the regional meet after winning the 6A District 16 competition at their own campus.

TWHS amassed 577 total points, putting them well ahead of second-place Kingwood High School at 322.

“I was surprised that we outscored the second place team by over 200 points,” science co-coach Matthew Davies said.

The Woodlands High School dominated the competition taking team gold medals in many events, including calculator applications, current issues, journalism, literary criticism, mathematics, number sense, science and social studies. click here for complete story

2015 Spring Boot Camp at The Woodlands High School

tnThe Conroe ISD College Readiness Department will be hosting our Spring College Preparation Boot Camp on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at The Woodlands High School from 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.Registration will be from 8:00-8:30 a.m. 

The College Prep Boot Camp is an overview of various college entrance exams such as the SAT, PSAT, ACT and TSI. Your student will be able to attend four different sessions that will assist the student in preparing for the college entrance exams.  There will be door prizes and free breakfast snacks available for the students.

Conroe ISD students beat state average on STAAR tests


Conroe ISD students performed better, on average, on all State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) tests taken last spring compared with the statewide test results in each subject, including in math, reading, writing, science and social studies, the Texas Education Agency reported.

“Conroe ISD students and faculty work hard on a daily basis, and it is reflected through the success of our students,” Conroe ISD Superintendent Don Stockton said.

Seventy-seven percent of Conroe ISD students passed the reading test, while 65 percent of students passed statewide. For the writing tests, 60 percent of Conroe ISD students passed, and 48 percent passed throughout the state, according to data from the TEA. click here for full story
