Girls Basketball | Oak Ridge earns two 12-6A superlatives

After a season that saw it finish as co-District 12-6A champions, Oak Ridge players earned two superlative awards.

Alecia Whyte, who was The Courier’s Montgomery County Player of the Year after her sophomore campaign, earned Defensive MVP honors as a junior in 12-6A. Nikki Petrakovitz, a freshman for the Lady War Eagles, was the Newcomer of the Year.

Locally, College Park junior Sandra Cannady was the only other superlative honoree with her Offensive MVP selection. continue reading…

College Park senior Quentin Grimes has been named the District 12-6A Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season after yet another standout campaign for the Cavaliers.

Grimes, a Kansas signee, averaged 29.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game this year while shooting 57 percent from the floor and 39 percent from the 3-point line. continue reading…

Boys Basketball: The Woodlands blows past Horn, advances to area round


After being eliminated by Westfield in the first round of last year’s playoffs, The Woodlands has been determined to make a deep run in 2017. The Highlanders have started their postseason journey about as well as any team can with a 64-42 blowout win over Mesquite Horn in the Region II-6A bi-district round Tuesday night at the Johnson Activity Center at Fairfield High School. read more…

Boys Basketball: Lewis, Tigers blow past College Park


Conroe and College Park wrapped up the first round of district play Tuesday night with a hard-fought battle in The Pit at Conroe High School. The Tigers wasted no time jumping all over the Cavaliers, hitting three 3-pointers to open the game. Once Conroe got in front, it never surrendered the lead, beating College Park 82-65. Read more…
