College Night at the Lone Star Convention Center

College Night is one of the largest college fairs held in the Houston Metropolitan area with over 150 colleges and universities in attendance and over 4,000 participants.collegenight2016

Conroe ISD, along with neighboring districts, Montgomery and Willis, is sponsoring College Night at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center.

College Night provides parents and students with the opportunity to learn about college admissions, financial aid, and military opportunities as well as speak with college admissions representatives.

College Night will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center located at 9055 Airport Road (formerly FM 1484) in Conroe, TX 77303. Students are encouraged to register online at www.gotocollegefairs.com and print out a barcode to minimize time filling out information cards at the fair. Registration for the event is not required.

Golf: Texas commit Mason Nome, 15, makes ace, albatross in one round

mason-nome-scorecard-1280x982It’s not every day a golfer makes a hole-in-one. It’s even more rare that a golfer makes an ace AND an albatross in the same round. On Friday, that’s exactly what 15-year-old Mason Nome did.

Nome, a Houston resident who is committed to Texas for the Class of 2019, began his round at Black Hawk Country Club in Richmond, Texas, with back-to-back birdies. After a bogey at the par-5 fifth, he grabbed 3-iron at the 218-yard par-3 eighth hole, playing closer to 230 yards, and holed it. click here for complete story

Teen suspect held in University of Texas freshman’s death

Haruka Weiser was a first-year theater and dance major.

Their paths crossed on Sunday night, police said. University of Texas freshman Haruka Weiser wrapped up a class at the drama building about 9:30 p.m. She called a friend to say she was on her way, according to an Austin police affidavit. She never made it. click here for complete story

Police Search for Suspect Seen in Video in Connection with Murder of University of Texas Ballet Dancer

Swimming: McBroom places eighth in 400m freestyle at FINA World Championships

image_handler (1)Texas-Ex Michael McBroom placed eighth in the 400-meter freestyle final Sunday on the opening day of swimming at the 2015 FINA World Championships.

Representing the United States, McBroom (The Woodlands, Texas) placed eighth overall in the 400m freestyle final at 3 minutes, 51.94 seconds. China’s Sun Yang won gold in 3:42.58 while England’s James Guy won silver at 3:43.75. click here for complete story
