Destination Imagination Global Champions recognized by CISD Board of Trustees

The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to Destination Imagination Global Champions at Tuesday’s Board meeting. The team, comprised of seven 2015 graduates of the Academy of Science and Technology (AST), was awarded first place at the DI Global Finals that took place May 20-23 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

DI is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering students’ curiosity, courage and creativity through open-ended STEM, fine arts and service learning challenges. The challenge selected by the team was called Feary Tales with the requirements to have a fairy tale type story with a character with a phobia, an optical illusion, and two types of art. Their pride and joy was the chameleon costume programmed with lights that changed as the animal’s moods changed which they said took over 100 hours of work to accomplish. click here for complete story

Academy of Science and Technology Team Named Global Champions

World’s largest celebration of creativity hosts record-breaking attendance from teams worldwide

Andrew's global champsA team of seven seniors from College Park’s Academy of Science and Technology was awarded 1st place at DI Global Finals. Destination Imagination (DI), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering students’ curiosity, courage and creativity through open-ended STEM, fine arts and service learning Challenges, boasted a record number of teams in Global Finals 2015, the world’s largest celebration of creativity, May 20-23 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Seniors Andrew Cahill, Paulome Srivastava, Victoria Youngblood, Nicole Chin, Erik Young, Kayla Kelly and Sarah Mohamed have attended Global Finals for three years in a row, but felt like this year’s performance was something very special.

“I’m glad I got to wrap up the last 3 years of craziness with some of my best friends, a great trip, an amazing performance and no sleep. This is one of the lasts I will miss the most,” said Andrew Cahill.

Top Conroe ISD students recognized

The Conroe ISD Board of Trustees recognized National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, National Hispanic Recognition Program recipients and National Achievement Scholarship semifinalists in November.

National Achievement Scholarship Program semifinalists are Preston Eni, of The Woodlands High School, and Jordan Franklin, of College Park High School.

“He is really a great kid,” The Woodlands Principal Greg Colschen said. “Preston is both an outstanding student and citizen.”

Eni is a member of the Highlanders basketball program and an active member in student life at The Woodlands High School. click here for complete story
