Football: Conroe wins double-OT thriller over playoff-bound College Park

Conroe senior Jaderrian Taylor capped his last game playing high school football in the biggest way imaginable.

In the second possession of overtime against District 16-6A foe College Park, Taylor pounded in a three-yard touchdown as the Tigers end the season on a high note, 19-13, Friday night at Buddy Moorhead Memorial Stadium

“This gives us a platform for next year,” Conroe coach Robert Walker said. “We have to take that and make hay with it. It was a great ending. It showed the type of football team we had all year.”

The win snapped a 15-game district losing streak dating back to Oct. 4, 2013 when Conroe was in 5A over Bryan. click here for complete story

Football: Conroe closes season with a 19-13 win against College Park in overtime

IMG_1417_storyThe College Park Cavaliers ended their regular season on a rough note after their overtime loss against the Conroe Tigers.

College Park opened the game conservatively with a field goal. Conroe did not possess the ball long before College Park’s Kaleb Taylor grabbed an interception. Just two downs later, Conroe recovered a fumble off of the Cavaliers. click here for complete story 

Football: Mustangs trounced Conroe; sit atop 16-6A heap

K with running mustangAs the 2015 high school football season heads into the homestretch, the cream is rising to the top of the District 16-6A standings. Three teams stand above the rest, two remain undefeated. Following Friday’s 49-17 pounding of Conroe, the Kingwood High School football team is one of those teams looking down at the rest.

Sewo Olonilua ran for 226 yards and three touchdowns as the Mustangs (5-2, 3-0) rolled to their fifth consecutive victory, firmly established them as a power in the district. Olonilua, a verbal commit to TCU, surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season with his outstanding effort on Friday. After seven games, the senior running back now has 1,033 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns on 94 carries. That’s an average of 11 yards per carry. click here for complete story

There were a couple moments in Friday night’s game against Kingwood that showed that Conroe has the flair for a big play.

In the first quarter at Buddy Moorhead Memorial Stadium, senior wide receiver Kameron Williams showed off his catching hands and then his speed as he beat the Mustangs down the field for a 75-yard touchdown that gave Conroe a one-point lead. click here for complete story
