920x920 (1)PHOENIX – Stacy Lewis missed a chance to shoot the second 59 in LPGA Tour history, settling for an 8-under 64 and a share of the first-round lead Thursday in the Bank of Hope Founders Cup.

Playing in low-90s heat in near-perfect conditions at Desert Ridge, Lewis was 9 under through 11 holes, parred the next six and closed with a bogey after hitting into the deep left greenside bunker. Read more…

Golf: Conroe’s Sewell wins individual and The Woodlands Boys team take third at Conroe Invitational Tournament

Conroe senior Chad Sewell fired a 1-under-par 71 Saturday to capture the Conroe Invitational individual golf championship at Conroe Country Club. Sewell finished the two-day, 36-hole event with a 141 (70-71) for a two-shot triumph over Tristan Hawkins (72-71) of Magnolia High School.

The Woodlands boys lead by Will Arend’s 80-76 took third as a team. The Highlanders carded a 319 on the second day and finished with a 643.
College Park – Academy of Science and Technology’s Nicco Bracci lead the Cavaliers with 74-84 and Oak Ridge’s Conner Lilley lead the War Eagles with 78-79

NCAA Women’s Golf: The Woodlands Fazio Course at Carlton Woods & Texas State women’s golf to host the 2016 Jim West Challenge Sun., Oct. 9 and Mon., Oct. 10

The tournament started at 8:30 on Sunday morning with the golfers playing 36 continuous holes for rounds one and two. The final round is slated for a shotgun start at 9:30 on Monday on The Fazio Course at Carlton Woods. The 6,137 yard course plays at a par 72 for the weekend.

The 15-team field includes 11 teams that qualified for the 2016 NCAA Championships. Joining Texas State are Florida State, Houston, Jacksonville, Kent State, Miami, Missouri, North Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and UTSA.

Live results will be available during tournament play at BirdieFire.com … Tournament results will be posted at TXStateBobcats.com at the conclusion of each day of competition.

The tournament concludes Monday with 18 holes beginning with an 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
