Woodlands Symphony to present “HomeGrown” concert, a celebration of Woodlands arts and artists

Katherine AudasThe Woodlands Symphony Orchestra will present a multimedia experience with HomeGrown: A celebration concert honoring the musicians, composers and artists in The Woodlands, the symphony’s final concert in its Cantus Firmus (Fixed Song) season. The concert will take place on Sunday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, located at 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive in The Woodlands. Tickets are available atwww.woodlandssymphony.org.

Under the artistic direction of Darryl Bayer, the evening will be orchestrated with a variety of segments that include original compositions, classical favorites, soloists, live performance arts, video/media enhancement and two multi-generational-diverse symphonies on stage at the same time.

Woodlands Woman Killed in Polk County Crash with 18-Wheeler

At approximately 8:40 am on April 11, 2017 an 18 wheeler pulling a flat bed trailer, driven by Curtis Adair, 31, of Point Blank, was north-bound on US-59. Adair attempted to crossover from the north-bound lanes of 59 across the south-bound lanes to Loop 116 (south end). As Adair was crossing the south-bound lanes of traffic, his trailer was slammed in the back half by a tan 2011 Kia Soul driven by Marley Chapla, 21, of The Woodlands. Chapla’s vehicle was fully lodged under Adair’s trailer as the 18 wheeler pulled off the highway to Loop 116 dragging the car. click here for complete story

Girls Soccer: Lady Lions top Oak Ridge in Spring ISD Tournament championship

Saturday afternoon, Oak Ridge and Spring battled for the Spring ISD Tournament Championship at Leonard George Stadium in a match filled a ton of back and forth action.

Oak Ridge had a go-ahead goal taken off the board in the second half after a costly encroachment penalty and the Lady Lions quickly took advantage of the momentum shift with a late game-winner to defeat the Lady War Eagles 2-1. Read more…

Shuttered Dosey Doe Music Cafe to reopen as BBQ joint

After 10 years at its location on FM 1488, the Dosey Doe Music Café, a popular eatery and music venue, has shuttered and will reopen as a breakfast and barbecue joint on Research Forest Drive in The Woodlands.

The music café was one of three Dosey Doe locations in The Woodlands area, including a small coffee shop in Alden Bridge and the Big Barn off of Interstate 45 near the Sawdust Road exit. Owner Steve Said originally opened the FM 1488 location just as a café, but the need arose for a smaller music venue than the Big Barn to host a mix of local and well-known artists. Read more…

Girls Basketball: Oak Ridge tops College Park in district rumble

Ever since they lost to Lufkin to open district play, the Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles have been playing with a chip on their shoulder. Friday night, they faced their toughest test yet against a College Park team that was undefeated in District 12-6A.

Oak Ridge rose to the challenge and positioned itself for a run at a district championship by outlasting the Lady Cavaliers 56-39 at College Park High School. Read more…

Girls Soccer: Early goal lifts Oak Ridge past Conroe

 

In about two and a half weeks from now, Oak Ridge will play host to Conroe for the District 12-6A opener for both teams. But both sides got a nice look at each other Friday afternoon when they squared off in the semifinals of the Spring ISD Tournament at Westfield High School.

Oak Ridge (8-1-1) scored early and played relentless defense late to earn a 1-0 victory over the Tigerettes (8-3). The Lady War Eagles will take on Spring at 3 p.m. Saturday at Leonard George Stadium for the tournament title. Oak Ridge has now won six straight matches, including a 3-0 mark this week. Read more…
