The Woodlands just capped a remarkable run to the Class 5A softball state championship game, and the Lady Highlanders were rewarded for their efforts in the selection of the All-District 14-5A team by the league coaches.
TWHS junior left-handed pitcher Abby Langkamp, who finished 26-1 in the circle while batting .381 with 29 RBI, was chosen the league’s Most Valuable Player.
Aubrey Leach, the Lady Highlanders’ junior shortstop, was selected the league’s Offensive Player of the Year, and her younger sister, freshman catcher Kelcy Leach, was chosen Newcomer of the Year.
Richard Jorgensen, the Lady Highlanders’ coach, selected Coach of the Year while Oak Ridge junior shortstop Amber Serrett was voted Defensive Player of the Year.
The Lady Highlanders had four more first-team selections in senior second baseman Sidney Salmans, senior outfielder Amy Cimera, senior pitcher Caitlin Bartsch and Stavinoha, a junior third baseman. Stavinoha hit .439 with 48 RBI while Salmans batted .453 with 42 RBI.
College Park finished 17-9 and claimed the league’s final playoff spot in a tiebreaking game with Bryan in Montgomery. The Lady Cavaliers had three first-team selections in pitcher Peyton Hutchens, shortstop Julie French and center fielder Nikki Giles.
Oak Ridge third baseman/catcher Amanda Cunniff was also named to the first team, along with A&M Consolidated teammates Kayla Bowman and Kyndal Foust, Bryan’s Erica Russell and Ally Bessette and Lufkin’s Madison Warnasch and Alexsandra Flores. Click here for complete story
Deer Park took control early and shut down The Woodlands’ high-powered offense in the UIL Class 5A state championship game on Saturday.
The Lady Deer cruised to an 8-2 victory at Red and Charline McCombs Field at the University of Texas, ending the Lady Highlanders’ dream season one win short of their ultimate goal.
The Woodlands finished its campaign 39-4, which included an eighth straight district title.
“It just wasn’t our day,” Lady Highlanders coach Richard Jorgensen said. “They played great. Hats off to them. … They just played at a higher clip than we did today, at a higher level. When you’re playing at a more aggressive level, good things are going to happen for you. We’re usually on the other side of that, so now I know what it feels like.”

The Woodlands had two of its possible three state tournament opponents covered after winning the Region II-5A softball finals in two games Friday night in Waco.
The Woodlands coach Richard Jorgensen traveled to Pearland to scout Game 3 between Deer Park and Bellaire, two teams the Lady Highlanders met during tournament play in February.
TWHS assistant coach Tim Borths, meanwhile, made the trip to San Antonio to catch Game 3 of the Region IV-5A finals pitting San Antonio Southwest and San Marcos. click here for complete story
The Woodlands Lady Highlanders pounded out eight runs on 10 hits in the first three innings Thursday night en route to a 8-3 win in Game 1 of the Class 5A Region II Regional Semifinals at Waco Midway High School.
The Lady Highlanders got the party started immediately when Aubrey Leach gets a lead-off bunt single and scores shortly after on a Sidney Salmans double to center-field and RBI. The Woodlands Lady Highlanders overcame some incredible odds to advance to the Region II-5A softball tournament on Saturday night at Atascocita High School.
After losing Game One 9-7 on a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lady Highlanders needed to win both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader on Atascocita’s home field to advance to the regional tournament. And that’s exactly what they did.
The Lady Highlanders, who are ranked No. 2 in the state of Texas, defeated Atascocita 12-5 and 7-4 to move on to the fourth round of the playoffs and improve to 34-3 on the season. click here for complete story
The Woodlands faces Austin Bowie in Area playoffs Friday
The Woodlands Lady Highlander softball team came off an impressive 12-2 win over Klein Collins in Game 1 of the Bi-District playoffs, with the Lady Highlanders looking for the sweep on Saturday and advance to the Area round. The Woodlands was red-hot out of the gate as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, keyed by Kaitlyn Stavinoha’s double and 2-RBI’s.
Klein Collins doesn’t go away, in the top of the third gets a run on a fielders choice to first base and then a single and two more Lady Tigers and that trims the Lady Highlander lead to 4-3. click here for complete story
