It was a special few days for Baker, a true freshman who chose the college route instead of turning professional after his senior year of high school. Luken Baker pitched six shutout innings and hit a solo home run, leading No. 11 TCU to a 10-0 victory over Rice in a game that was called after seven innings Saturday at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic in Houston.

As the 2015 high school football season heads into the homestretch, the cream is rising to the top of the District 16-6A standings. Three teams stand above the rest, two remain undefeated. Following Friday’s 49-17 pounding of Conroe, the Kingwood High School football team is one of those teams looking down at the rest.
Sewo Olonilua ran for 226 yards and three touchdowns as the Mustangs (5-2, 3-0) rolled to their fifth consecutive victory, firmly established them as a power in the district. Olonilua, a verbal commit to TCU, surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season with his outstanding effort on Friday. For someone who had zero match play experience prior to this week, Allie Andersen from The Woodlands has shown no signs of backing down at the 94th WTGA State Amateur Championship.
The 14-seeded Andersen, a sophomore at Colorado State, upset third-seeded Kelly McGovern in Wednesday’s Round of 16 by the score of 2&1. McGovern, a TCU junior, is also from The Woodlands and attended high school with Andersen. click here for complete story
A local high school baseball star will be in California Wednesday, where he’ll find out if he wins a big honor.
This time last year, Luken Baker was at the Major League All-Star Game, where he won the junior home run derby. It was the start of a stellar senior season at Oak Ridge High School.
Baker went 12-1 as a pitcher while hitting .440 with 8 home runs, earning Luken Gatorade’s National Baseball Player of the Year honors. click here for complete story
