The former Oak Ridge star and 2015 Gatorade National High School Player of the Year is off to a scorching start for the No. 9 TCU Horned Frogs, who were in town this past weekend for the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park.

It was a special few days for Baker, a true freshman who chose the college route instead of turning professional after his senior year of high school. He was selected by the Houston Astros in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft last summer, but made it clear beforehand that he intended to honor his commitment to the Horned Frogs. click here for complete story

Baseball: Two big innings, Baker’s pitching helps TCU overpower Rice

Football: Mustangs trounced Conroe; sit atop 16-6A heap

K with running mustangAs the 2015 high school football season heads into the homestretch, the cream is rising to the top of the District 16-6A standings. Three teams stand above the rest, two remain undefeated. Following Friday’s 49-17 pounding of Conroe, the Kingwood High School football team is one of those teams looking down at the rest.

Sewo Olonilua ran for 226 yards and three touchdowns as the Mustangs (5-2, 3-0) rolled to their fifth consecutive victory, firmly established them as a power in the district. Olonilua, a verbal commit to TCU, surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season with his outstanding effort on Friday. After seven games, the senior running back now has 1,033 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns on 94 carries. That’s an average of 11 yards per carry. click here for complete story

Golf: Ex-Lady Highlanders battle at WTGA State Amateur Championship

For someone who had zero match play experience prior to this week, Allie Andersen from The Woodlands has shown no signs of backing down at the 94th WTGA State Amateur Championship.

The 14-seeded Andersen, a sophomore at Colorado State, upset third-seeded Kelly McGovern in Wednesday’s Round of 16 by the score of 2&1. McGovern, a TCU junior, is also from The Woodlands and attended high school with Andersen. click here for complete story

A local high school baseball star will be in California Wednesday, where he’ll find out if he wins a big honor.

This time last year, Luken Baker was at the Major League All-Star Game, where he won the junior home run derby. It was the start of a stellar senior season at Oak Ridge High School.

Baker went 12-1 as a pitcher while hitting .440 with 8 home runs, earning Luken Gatorade’s National Baseball Player of the Year honors. click here for complete story
